No. In fact, most of the calls we receive are for non-emergency issues, such as requests for vehicle jump-starts and house lockout services.
Your response to an emergency depends on the nature of the emergency. Please refer to the Emergency Operations Plan to determine the best response.
Regardless of the nature of the emergency, effective communications are paramount. We recommend that you download the CampusShield smartphone app to receive alerts for emergency situations, severe weather advisories, campus closings and major event cancellations at Ashland University. In doing so, we can inform you of emergencies on campus (you will also receive email notifications of emergencies as needed). In addition to these notifications, you can find additional resources on the emergency notices posted throughout campus.
If a member of the Ashland University campus community needs transport to the emergency room, Safety Services will provide transportation if it is safe to do so. Safety Services officers are trained in basic community first aid and proper usage of an AED (defibrillator). For more serious injuries, an emergency squad will be called.
Yes. Although the Ashland University locksmith is under the direction of the Facilities department, dispatchers can process work orders for locksmithing (students can also submit locksmithing work orders themselves). Students can also request that officers rekey their dorm room lock(s) to enhance the safety of the occupant(s).
Yes. Call our office to provide details of the crime. A dispatcher will send an officer to meet you where you are or meet you at the Safety Services office if you prefer. The dispatcher may also send an Ashland City police officer if necessary. As an individual reporting a crime, you have the right to request police involvement.
All colleges and universities are required to make local crime statistics and university security policies available to the public. To access the crime statistics for the last three calendar years, refer to our Resources page. We also publish this information in written form. To request a printed copy, please contact the Safety Services Office by phone at 419-207-5555 or by e-mail at security@go-rutgers.com.
